Crary Pullen: The New Face of Reportage… the Internet.

Leading photo editor Crary Pullen of Time Magazine will discuss the changing dynamic of reportage photography in today’s editorial world, the inevitable shift from print to the Internet. Understanding where reportage photography is heading is necessary to creating a pertinent and viable vision. Crary will discuss the process of creating such a vision and illustrate how today’s reportage photographer, utilizing the world wide web, helps to tell the world’s story. Students should bring a portfolio to be reviewed by Crary and discussed during the workshop.

Bruce Perez: The Growing Scope of Magazine Photography, Editor Redbook Magazine

Redbook Magazine is known for incorporating a wide variety of photographic styles into their publication, setting an industry standard for utilizing multi-various forms of photography while maintaining a coherent and consistent vision. Including still life, beauty, fashion, reportage and portrait photography, photo editor Bruce Perez of Redbook Magazine oversees a vast range of photographic styles. Kathleen Klech, Directory of Photography for Conde Nast Traveler, has significantly broadened the scope of travel photography since her time at Conde Nast. Incorporating other forms of photography such as fashion and fine art, she has set an industry wide standard for superior travel photography. In this lecture, Kathleen will explain the creative motivations behind the unique vision of Conde Nast Traveler, where travel photography is headed and what defines a great travel photographer. Having broke the mold at Conde Nast Traveler, Kathleen will give unique insight into what the editors are looking for and how, as a photographer, to best secure your footing in the travel photography world.
